Alpes Graiae (province)

A small Alpine province of the Roman Empire organized around the Little St Bernard Pass, roughly corresponding to the eastern portion of the modern-day French department of Savoie. Augustus annexed the territory in 15 BCE; under Diocletian, the periodically joint administration of the province together with Alpes Poeninae was made permanent, forming the province of Alpes Poeninae et Graiae.
