This two-story mansion in Amaliapoli, a village on the western shore of the Pagasetic Gulf in Magnesia, recalls a layered past. Amaliapoli was once the northernmost border settlement of the newly independent Greek state, and in the 1840s it took its name from Queen Amalia; it is also known as Nea Mintzela. The residence is associated with the Kalamidas family, notable in the region during the Greek Revolution of 1821. In 1997, rescue excavations by the archaeological service accompanied harbor works in the bay of Haghios Ioannis.
