At Eretria on the island of Euboea, the Temple of Apollo Daphnephoros preserves the footprint of a sanctuary at the heart of ancient civic and religious life. The name Daphnephoros, meaning laurel-bearer, honors Apollo, who was especially venerated here. Now reduced to stone foundations and a few standing columns, the temple once drew processions and offerings across the archaic, classical and later periods. Its remains suggest a substantial structure, a reminder that this corner of Euboea was for centuries a place of gathering, ritual and devotion.
