On the island of Aegina, this small museum takes its name from the ancient sanctuary of Aphaia nearby, and its displays draw on finds from the surrounding area. Its objects span a remarkable sweep of time, from the archaic and classical eras through the Hellenistic, Roman and late antique periods, reaching into the modern age. Like many locally focused collections across Greece, it exists to keep archaeological material close to where it was found, offering the curious traveler an intimate, unhurried encounter with the island's long history.
