On the island of Anafi, the Sanctuary of Apollo Anafaios gathers the layers of a long, quiet history. Worship here spanned the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods, so the site carries the imprint of many centuries of use. Its later chapter is written in stone: a Christian chapel, Panagia Kalamiotissa, took over the ancient sacred ground. The result is a palimpsest of devotion, where pagan and medieval share the same dry Cycladic light. The Greek name simply records the place, not a legend or a famous excavation.
