In Kalavryta, Achaia, the Palace of Palaiologina, known locally as the Archontiko, is a rare surviving example of Byzantine domestic architecture, a stone mansion that once housed a noble family. Its name evokes the Palaiologos dynasty, the last imperial house of Byzantium, though the building's precise history remains unrecorded. Excavations between 1999 and 2007 uncovered Byzantine remains, pipes, and walls, including a substantial wall aligned east to west. The mansion is a protected building, its sturdy walls recalling an era when such residences anchored provincial life.
