Within the sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus, one of the ancient Greek world's most important healing complexes, the Odeon served as a setting for music and performance. The sacred site flourished from the fifth century BCE through the second century CE, its life spanning classical, Hellenistic and Roman times. Over those centuries the sanctuary grew into a city of temples and monuments, among them the famous theatre and the Tholos. An odeon belonged to this world of festival and devotion, where song and spectacle accompanied the worship of the healing god.
