The Museum of Zakynthos gathers the island’s cultural and artistic heritage under one roof, with collections that trace centuries of life on Zakynthos. Its galleries are especially known for the Ionian School of painting, a style that flourished under Venetian influence and shaped the visual character of the region. The building itself is a modern reconstruction, rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1953. Finds from the archaic, classical, Hellenistic, late antique and Roman periods connect the island’s ancient past to its later artistic traditions.
