On the Lasithi plateau in eastern Crete, the Monastery of Virgin Mary Kroustallenias rises from a small mound within the Community of Saint Konstantinos, about 41 kilometres from Agios Nikolaos. This Orthodox foundation, dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin, belongs to the Byzantine era, and its elevated setting on the high plain places it within a landscape long shaped by the rhythms of monastic life. Here, above the fields of one of Crete's most distinctive uplands, the monastery keeps its quiet watch, a place where architecture, faith and geography meet.
