Monastery of the Dormition of Theotokos

The Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Mikrokastro, Kozani, is a significant landmark of the Metropolis of Sisani and Siatista. Its exact founding date is unknown, but it is believed to have been established in the 18th century. An inscription inside the church records that its frescoes were completed in 1797. The absence of any mention of an abbot or monastic community at that time suggests the site originally functioned as a parish church for the nearby village. The first official reference to it as a monastery appears in 1824. In the early 1930s, it became the dominant monastery in the area after several smaller ones merged. During the tenure of Metropolitan Iakovos Kleombrotos (1945-1958), extensive renovations began, including the construction of new buildings.
