On the eastern coast of Chios, about eight kilometres north of the island's main town and three from Vrontados, the Monastery of Myrtidiotissa sits at roughly seventy metres above the sea. This male Orthodox house, also called Myrsinidi, belongs to the metropolis of Chios, Psara and Oinoussa, and it was founded in 1887 by a hieromonk. Its Byzantine era roots place it within a long island monastic tradition, where foundations served as centres of worship and quiet devotion. A visit here offers calm, sea air and a sense of continuity on Chios.
