High in the mountains of Kastoria, where the Stenopotamos stream meets the Aliakmonas river, the Monastery of Archangel Tsoukala keeps watch over a narrow gravel terrace. This Byzantine foundation takes its name from Tsouka, an older settlement now abandoned, and lies about eight kilometers northeast of Nestorio. Recognized as a protected building in Greece, the monastery belongs to a landscape where rivers and mountain paths shaped monastic life for centuries, and its dedication to the Taxiarch Archangel recalls a tradition of faith anchored in some of the country's most rugged and remote terrain.
