Lake Koumoundourou, known in Greek as Λίμνη Κουμουνδούρου, lies at Skaramangas in the western sector of Athens, a coastal lagoon of ancient origin. Fed by underground springs and linked to the sea by a narrow channel, its brackish waters and surrounding wetland form a rare surviving habitat in the Attic basin. Once more extensive, the lagoon has seen modern industry and development encroach upon its shores, yet it endures as a quiet remnant of the ancient landscape, inviting travelers to pause where water, sea, and city still meet.
