In Tsotyli, a village of stone and slate in the Voio hills of Kozani, the Garaina Mansion stands as a protected monument of northern Greek architecture. Its neoclassical lines, fine proportions and orderly facade speak to the refined building traditions of the modern era, when prosperous households in the region expressed their standing through elegant homes. Just beyond, on the terraces of a hill at Boufari, archaeologists in 1994 uncovered a settlement of the early third century, with two-storey agricultural houses open to the south and surviving floors. Together, mansion and excavation layer centuries of lived history into one landscape.
