High on the western slopes of the Lefka Ori mountains in Chania, Ellinotrypa Cave holds traces of ancient activity within its rocky chambers. Excavations in 1999 brought to light fragments of pottery and anthropomorphic figurines dating to the Hellenistic era, small human figures that hint at ritual use. Such finds suggest this mountain cave served as a sanctuary or place of offering during antiquity, when worshippers sought out remote and elevated spots for devotion. Standing at the entrance, you share the vantage those ancient visitors once knew.
