High above the Haliotata area near Sami in Kefalonia, the entrance to Drongorati Cave opens at 120 metres altitude, leading down into a chamber that reaches 95 metres in depth. Inside, millennia of patient mineral growth have shaped a landscape of stalactites and stalagmites, and the air holds a constant 18 degrees Celsius year round. The Hellenic Speleological Society has explored these passages, and the cave stands among the notable subterranean wonders of Greece, a cool, dim realm where geology itself becomes the monument.
