Standing in the Argolis near Nafplio, this Byzantine church dedicated to the Mother of God carries centuries of layered history in its stones. Excavations between 1994 and 2005 revealed a remarkable detail: a crowning block from the Classical altar of the Argive Heraion was built into the adjacent Chapel of Agia Anna, showing how later builders reused the sacred fabric of antiquity. The church is a protected monument, and its walls hold the quiet evidence of a landscape where Classical sanctuaries and Byzantine chapels succeeded one another across the centuries.
