The Church of St. George in Aipeia, Messenia, is a Byzantine church preserved as a protected building in Greece. Excavations in the area between 2008 and 2011 uncovered traces of the site's long life, including Venetian coins from the second period of Venetian rule and a Turkish coin found above a fallen building. Nearby, a retaining wall and the church of Agios Nikolaos add to the picture of a settlement layered across centuries. To stand here is to sense how faith, trade, and conquest left their marks on this corner of the Peloponnese.
