At the south-western edge of the village of Platanos on Samos stands the former parish church of the Dormition of the Virgin, whose feast is 15 August. A carving at the entrance records its construction in 1787. The church is a complex, two-aisled structure, each aisle built in a different style. The southern aisle is a single-aisled, domed basilica with internal arches. The source material provides no further details on the northern aisle, the interior decoration, or any subsequent alterations. It is a modest, late eighteenth-century village church, its interest lying in the hybrid construction that combines two distinct architectural traditions under one roof.
