High above the eastern Cretan coast near Palaikastro, the remains of a ceramic kiln at Pezoules Mavrokoukoulidon speak to an ancient industry that shaped daily life. This modest structure of fired clay served a settlement with a long history, its wider site spanning the third and second millennia BCE and continuing through Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman times. Kilns like this one turned out storage jars, cooking pots and trade vessels, practical wares that sustained households and commerce. Excavation and survey in the area from 1976 to 2023 have gradually revealed the working life of this corner of Lasithi.
