On the small island of Agios Nikolaos, just off the eastern coast of Rhodes near Archangelos beach, stands the scant remains of a fortified tower. Built in the early fifteenth century, it once protected a church within its walls and formed part of a Catholic monastery, first recorded in the documents of the Order of St John around 1450. The tower was substantial, measuring 13.0 by 8.1 metres, though today only its lower courses survive, rising to a modest 1.5 to 2 metres in height. A western entrance remains visible, with a staircase of fourteen steps beside it that originally led to a roof above the church. The condition is rather poor, leaving little more than a trace of what was once a defensive and religious outpost on this tiny islet.
