The Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos, housed in a building that has served the community since 1970, holds the primary collection of antiquities from Eastern Crete. Its exhibits span from the Neolithic era through to Roman times, drawing largely from sites across the Lasithi prefecture. The most striking displays are the grave goods from the early Minoan cemetery of Agia Fotia (3000-2300 BC) and finds from the Minoan palace of Malia. The permanent exhibition begins with compelling items from the Early Minoan settlement of Myrtos, then moves through the peak of Minoan civilisation and into the Greco-Roman period. It offers a tangible link to the daily lives, beliefs and artistic achievements of the ancient civilisations that shaped this part of Crete. The museum is at 74 Constantinou Palaiologou Street, Agios Nikolaos.
