The Archaeological Collection of Sami occupies a modest space in the main square of this port town on Kefalonia, and its exhibits are drawn from decades of local excavation, from 1972 to 2010. Pottery, coins, and funerary stelae trace the island's long story, with material from the Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman periods alongside Byzantine finds. Excavations nearby revealed an Early Byzantine house complex built over Hellenistic remains, and houses and roads uncovered in the town itself give the collection its quiet strength: the ordinary texture of daily life across centuries.
