The Archaeological Collection of Lidoriki displays vessels, coins, mosaics, jewellery and inscriptions retrieved from the ancient city of Kallipolis, which was overrun by the Gauls in 278 BC. The entire site now lies submerged under the artificial Lake Mornos. The collection also holds Byzantine artefacts and ruins rescued from the same area. The museum itself is housed in Lidoriki, a town that served as the capital of the mountainous Dorida department from 1833. Local medieval castles, bishoprics and monasteries in the wider region attest to resistance against Franks, Catalans and Venetians, while the collection provides a concrete record of the area's deeper past, from the Dorian period through to the Ottoman era.
