On the shores of Lake Kastoria, this small museum gathers finds from the Neolithic lakeside settlement of Dispilio, excavated between 1993 and 2011. Waterlogged ground preserved what dry sites destroy: wooden objects, pottery, tools, figurines, and traces of houses and walls. Among the most intriguing pieces is a wooden tablet bearing incised markings, which some interpret as an early form of writing. Together the collection opens a window onto daily life in a prehistoric community that built its homes at the water's edge, one of the most significant such sites in northern Greece.
