Set beside the village of Orchomenos in Arcadia, this ancient theatre belonged to a city that once ranked among the great powers of the region, alongside Tegea and Mantineia. Its roots reach back to prehistoric settlement, and the site flourished across archaic, classical, Hellenistic and Roman times. Excavation here, carried out between 1973 and 2012, revealed traces of Mycenaean houses, sanctuaries, temples and walls, layers of a long life lived on these slopes. Standing among the remains, you sense how theatre, worship and daily dwelling intertwined in the Greek city.
