The Ancient Theatre of Lefki on Koufonisi is a Hellenistic structure, its dimensions and precise builder unrecorded. Geophysical surveys were completed in 2009, funded by the former Prefecture of Lasithi, to map the site. Architects Yiorgos Kannavakis and Liana Efthymiadou voluntarily drafted a protection plan against weather and sandblasting from fierce wind storms, approved by the Local Archaeological Council. The theatre's stone seating and stage area survive, though eroded. It was part of a wider Roman-era settlement on the island, which included a bath complex with preserved hypocausts and marble floors, and a temple (18m by 15.7m) near a later lighthouse, where fragments of a colossal Hellenistic cult statue were found: a part of the seat, the left pelvis, and a draped right leg. The theatre remains a symbolic monument, awaiting full promotional and protective funding.
