On the slopes beneath Mount Olympus in Pieria, the Ancient Theatre of Dion lies within a sanctuary long sacred to Zeus, where the Macedonians gathered for drama and civic ceremony. Across archaic, classical, Hellenistic, Roman and late antique centuries, its stone seats and orchestra were carved into the natural hillside, shaping a stage open to the sky and the mountain's shadow. Nearby stood Colonia Iulia Augusta Diensium, the Roman town that inherited this hallowed ground. To sit here is to feel how performance, landscape and devotion once shared a single space.
