The Ancient Theater of Stratos rises from the landscape of Aetolia-Acarnania near Agrinio, a Classical monument tied to the ancient city of Stratos and its civic and cultural life. Its stones span an extraordinary reach of time, with the site reflecting archaic, classical, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine phases of use. Excavations carried out between 1974 and 2010 revealed part of the city's western cemetery, where cist graves and a few tile graves held rich burial goods. Together, theater and tombs sketch a community that honored its dead and gathered to watch and listen.
