The Alfios Bridge carries a Byzantine stone span across the Alpheios River in Arcadia, within the Municipality of Megalopolis. Its fabric belongs to the long Byzantine centuries between the sixth and fifteenth, when masons raised arched crossings that kept roads and trade moving through the Peloponnese. Nearby stood ancient Brenthe, a classical settlement on the river's right bank, already in ruins when Pausanias passed this way. The bridge thus layers eras in a single view: a medieval crossing beside the memory of a vanished classical town, in a landscape where the river has always shaped settlement.
