The Acropolis of Phlious rises above the valley of the river Asopos, the fortified heart of the ancient city of Phliasia. Its walls and terraces were occupied across an extraordinary span, from the Archaic period through Classical and Hellenistic times and into the Roman era, more than a millennium of continuous habitation and rebuilding. Each phase left its mark on the citadel's architecture, layer upon layer. Today the site is partially preserved, and its surviving remains still convey the strategic and cultural importance of a stronghold that watched over its valley for centuries.
