The Acropolis of Dodona rises in the Dodoni Municipality of Epirus, a citadel whose occupation reaches back to the Archaic period and continues through Classical, Hellenistic, Roman and Late Antique times. First built in the Hellenistic era, between the fourth and first centuries BCE, it served as a meeting hall for the Epirote League before its administrative role faded. The fortifications endured cycles of destruction and rebuilding, and excavations between 1981 and 2005 uncovered Hellenistic and Roman finds, cisterns and stretches of restored wall. Today the site stands partly preserved, its walls still tracing the shape of a watchful past.
